No debería ser ninguna sorpresa que hoy en día, demasiados estadounidenses sufren de una falta de educación financiera. Lo peor es que estas mismas personas saben que no son de una cultura financiera, pero no hacen nada al respecto.
Hay unos pasos sencillos que cualquiera, no importando cuanto tiene o cuanto gana, puede tomar el control de su dinero y poder enriquecerse.
1. Desarrollar (y mantenerse a) un presupuesto. La palabra ‘presupuesto’ no tiene que ser algo dificultoso. Esto no significa que tienen que negarse ciertas cosas como una noche al cine o una cena de lujo. Más bien, es un guía para como poder lograr una meta financiera.
Algunas personas no saben por dónde empezar a desarrollar un presupuesto. Pero aquí esta una manera fácil de hacerlo. A partir del primer día del mes y hasta el final del mes, mantenga un seguimiento de todo lo que gasta, sea como escribir un cheque para la renta o dinero que carga en su bolsillo el cual uso para comprarse un café. Esto le dirá en que gasta y en que áreas puede reducir sus gastos, si lo es necesario.
2. Obtener una copia GRATUITA de su informe de crédito y pagué el dinero para obtener su calificación también. Su informe de crédito contiene una gran cantidad de información importante acerca de su vida financiera: las cuentas de cheque y ahorros que tiene, préstamos de vivienda o de coches, todas las tarjetas de crédito que tienen o han tenido, y su historial de pagos a los acreedores.
La información incorrecta en su reporte de crédito o un mal reporte de crédito puede impactar su vida financiera en varias maneras. Información falsa o pagos retrasados y malas transacciones pueden impactar su calificación de crédito, impactando la habilidad de comprar un coche, una casa, obtener una tarjeta de crédito, y en algunos casos, hasta conseguir un trabajo. Por eso, es importante revisar su reporte de crédito por lo menos una vez al año, y tomar las medidas para aclarar los puntos negativos.
Debería obtener su calificación de crédito también. Esto la daría una idea como usted esta y que información tiene en su crédito y lo que significa. Una buena calificación le podría ayudar a obtener un préstamo o una tarjeta de crédito con interés bajo, que al largo plazo le ayudara ahorrar dinero.
Y si su informe de crédito y calificación no son tan buenas, no pierda la esperanza. Ahora tiene una meta que alcanzar – en limpiar su reporte de crédito y mejorar su calificación.
3. Haga lo que pueda para poder reducir su deuda. No tiene que tener algún tipo de ganancia inesperada de dinero para poder salir de la deuda. Es mejor avanzar en una manera inteligente para poder lograr a pagar su deuda.
Si tiene tarjetas de crédito con un balance e interés alto, páguelas primero, ya que estos son la que le cuestan más dinero. Luego pague aquellas tarjetas de crédito con bajo balance e intereses.
Y no hace falta decir, que debería pagar más de lo mínimo de la cuota mensual. Considere esto: si usted tiene una tarjeta de crédito con un balance de 1,000 dólares y solo hace un pago mínimo de 2% mensual y sin usar la tarjeta de crédito, le llevaría 13 años y un costo de 935 dólares adicional solo en interés. Así que habrá pagado lo igual en interés que lo que debía desde el comienzo.
4. Ahorre. Ahorrando lo más que pueda aunque sea algo poco y apartando una cantidad de cada cheque es algo importante. Tal vez en las mañanas compra una taza de café. Digamos que esa taza de café le cuesta 3 dólares. ¿Sabe usted, si usted aparta esos 3 dólares todos los días, al final del ano habrá ahorrado una cantidad de 700 dólares? Así que ya ves, ahorrando lo más poco, al largo plazo se convierte en una gran cantidad.
Más importante aun, la necesidad de ahorrar se tiene que convertir en un hábito. Para las muchas personas que no tienen la disciplina para ahorrar dinero, es bueno pensar en que le deduzcan automáticamente una cantidad de su cheque para así poner un poco en sus ahorros.
5. Cada año hágase un análisis de valor neto personal. Escoja una tarde soñoliento, el tiempo mas perfecto para hacer esto es durante la temporada de hacer los impuestos, y sume todo lo que posee y reste el valor de todo lo que debe. El resultado será su valor neto personal.
Guarde este resultado y al cabo de seis meses revísalo. Se es necesario, esto le daría algo en que trabajar o unas áreas en lo que puede mejorar. Lo bueno es, cualquier persona puede hacer esto no importando los recursos financieros que tengan.
